Hike/Snowshoe? Thornwood Trails, S Elgin
Easy hike starting from Stowell-Peddy Park, S Elgin. North and south Thornwood loops (Mid County Trail), asphalt with grass or brush shoulder. There is also a wide mowed grass “linear park” available for portion of walk/possible snowshoeing.) This pretty trail system is bordered by woods, creek and wetland area with 2 ponds. Bring poles if you like (good on grass areas.) Small mowed grass hill for pole climbs and option to stay for 1/2 mile fitness trail with exercise stations. Meet at the little historic barn/windmill at the north side of the parking lot. If lot is full, park at adjacent Corron School and walk over to start. Stowell-Peddy Park is on south side of McDonald Rd, between the fire station and school. Please register by noon Sunday on FVBSC website. Plan to walk 1 to 2 hrs, 3 to 5 miles depending on how far we go on each loop and at Peddy Park. Cell phone 312-320-1499 event day only please, call or text.
