Greetings Future RAGBRAI Riders:
The purpose of this communication is to let you know that FVBSC will not be offering a group club ride to RAGBRAI 2024. Many club members attended the epic RAGBRAI L in 2023 and a great time was had by all. However, our awesome event coordinators are now "retired" from event planning. If someone wants to take over as event planner, please step forward. Otherwise, interested RAGBRAI riders should manage the trip on their own. Because this trip is not a club event, our insurance will not extend to Iowa.
www.ragbrai.com - the ride
www.pkbelly.com - the support (many options for support, Pork Belly Ventures (PBV) has been our traditional charter of choice)
Here are a few tips and some important dates to get you started on your RAGBRAI journey:
- RAGBRAI registration opens Nov 15
- PBV registration opens mid-Dec (Unlike previous years, Pork Belly Ventures will not open registration that same day on Nov 15.) Sign up for communications so that you get their very informative emails. There will be an email that provides more information about registration ... watch for that and be ready to register the day they open. They are expecting not as many registrations as in 2023, but more than 2022.
- PBV will close registration on Jan 7
- RAGBRAI route announced Jan 27 - this is where you will learn of the start/end towns and you should book a hotel immediately in the end town for the night before the shuttle ride to the start town
PBV will not accept as many riders as they did in 2023 and NEW THIS YEAR may adopt a lottery for high-demand services. If you're part of a group, your GROUP NAME should be put on your application. You are welcome to use "FVBSC" as your GROUP NAME. After January 7, PBV will close registration and determine whether a lottery is needed or whether they can accommodate everyone who has applied. In the event of a lottery, they will draw names. If a name drawn is part of a group, then they will select that whole group. This is why the group name is so important.
To help you out, we have listed this event on our Ride Calendar and you may "register" so that you can see who all is interested in attending. You may want to coordinate logicstics together. If you are planning to use PBV for support, you are welcome to use "FVBSC" as your group name, which MAY benefit you all in the event of a lottery. However, that is where the support ends. Specifically, we will not 1) reserve a hotel in the end town, 2) identify parking in the end town, 3) coordinate shuttle bus departure times, 4) arrange for a pre-ride and post-ride group dinner, 5) coordinate carpooling or other transportation logistics.
