It is with great sadness that we share the news that Carl Johanson, our dear and beloved friend, passed away on November 16, 2023.  Carl was a long-time FVBSC member, served on the Board, and met his wife of 17 years Patti on a club ride.  Carl and Patti participated in many local weekday and weekend rides, as well as trips throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky and beyond.  The Johanson's hosted our club's annual holiday party in their beautiful home for many years.  We share very fond memories with and of Carl and Patti, both on and off the bikes.

All who knew Carl loved Carl ... there was always a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye, and a strong push to his pedals.  The only thing that Carl loved more than riding his bike was Patti.  And he really LOVED riding his bike.

Everyone (members, guests) is invited to participate in a group memorial ride to honor Carl's extraordinary life. The ride will be approximately 15 miles at a 12-13 MPH pace.  We will meet at Kane County Government Center (KCGC) in Geneva at 6:30 am, rolling at 6:45 am sharp.  Our route will take us past Carl and Patti's home (878 Skyline Drive, Batavia) at approximately 7:30 am and then on to Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State Street (Route 38), Geneva for the visitation and service.  Visitation runs from 9:00-11:00 am and the celebration of life begins at 11:00 am.  Cyclists will then ride back to KCGC.  

Please wear your FVBSC kits (or orange and black) and dress for cold weather.  We will have black arm bands available.  Patti supports us attending service in our kits as a tribute to how much we cared for Carl and valued his time with our club.  We are honored to show our respect united as a club and a cycling family.
