Dark Side of the Moon Gravel Ride & BBQ
Dark Side of the Moon Gravel Ride/BBQ
Breath, breath in the gravel. Don’t be afraid to ramble.
Let’s go ride some gravel and eat some BBQ! I’ve collected 2 routes for a 50 or 62-mile gravel ride. Depending on the turn out, we can all decide which route we want, or break into groups for the desired route.
The 50-mile route has 1 planned stop through Waterman at about mile 25 at the Casey’s off Route 30. The 62-mile route has 1 planned stop in the Shabbona Lake State Park at the Outpost Store on the Lake. (if that happens to be closed we’ll ride north a bit into Shabbona and hit their Casey’s off Shabbona road).
Both routes have multiple bailout points on the second half of the course. If you’re feeling whipped or if unanticipated bad weather starts to form.
Pace – Depending on the condition of the gravel we’ll be a 14mph average or better. The average will generally be determined by the participants and groups may form.
No Drop. While gaps may form, no one will be dropped, and regrouping points shall occur. That said, you should be strong enough to maintain the stated average above and ok with riding alone from time to time.
Rain will not cancel this ride, however flood and thunderstorm warnings will. That call will be made on game day at the ride start.
