Sat Dec 5, 2020 Winter Prep Hike/Poles optional, 9 30 am-11 am
Easy morning hike starting from Stowell-Peddy Park, S Elgin. North and south Thornwood loops. Trail is asphalt with grass or brush shoulder. There is also a wide mowed grass “linear park” available for portion of walk (keep in mind for future snowshoeing.) This is a pretty trail system bordered by woods, a creek and a wetland area with 2 ponds. Bring poles if you like (good on the grass areas.) Small mowed grass hill for pole climbs and option to stay for ½ mile fitness trail with exercise stations (disposable gloves suggested.) Masks must be worn , see COVID -19 guidelines. Limit 10 people.
Meet at the little historic barn/windmill at the north side of the parking lot. If this lot is full, park at Corron School next door, and walk over to start. Stowell-Peddy Park is located on the south side of McDonald Rd, between the fire station and school. Must Contact Jeanne B by 8pm Fri phone 847-742-1294 or email JBbikeski@gmail.com. (Questions Sat morning call cell phone 312-320-1499.) Plan to walk 1 to 2 hrs, 3 to 5 miles depending on how far we go on north loop and how much at Peddy Park, can be flexible. (You can just do first loop if you wish.)
Directions—from Randall Rd/Rt 64 intersection in St Charles, go north on Randall approx 5 miles to Stearns/McDonald stoplight, then left (west) on Stearns approx half mile to the park—just past the fire station. Turn left (south) into the park. Coffee and restrooms at Mc Donald’s Redington St, South Elgin address on google maps. It is 1 mile from the park, and is located east of Home Depot, along the west side of Randall, south of Stearns/Randall stoplight.
