7:00 AM & 9:00 AM Starts: SWD Workers Ride

You are cordially invited to participate in this year's Swedish Days Worker's ride. This is a ride I have personally organized for the last several years. During this period it has earned itself a reputation.

The worker's ride provides an opportunity for those working the Swedish Days event to experience the route first hand. It also allows us to check some of the roads for any last minute issues. The ride is held a week prior to the actual event; this year on Saturday, June 17th

Although termed the “Worker's Ride,” all club members as well as our extended "Friends of the FVBSC," who have offered to volunteer are welcome. If you have already volunteered to support the actual event on Sunday June 25th, then this ride is your chance to experience the route with almost the same level of rest stop and SAG support as the day of the ride. Of course if you have not yet volunteered, then your participation is our way of seducing you to do so. No club member will be turned away.

SAG and rest-stop support will be available initially at the start location, which this year will be at Central Middle School on Plato Rd. And then later at the north rest stop, which is at Hampshire High School. On offer will be a selection of fresh fruit, breads, trail mix, Scratch Labs energy drink and water.

Two start times are offered. Your choice depends on the pace and distance that interests you.

  • 7:00 AM; fast-paced 25-mile loop south of the middle school (pace D/E)
  • 9:00 AM; 25 or 45 mile route north of the school (self paced)

Those who start at 7 AM will be back well in time to ride the north route, starting at 9 AM. Therefore depending on the start time one can take advantage of the following mileage options.

  1. 25m at 7 AM with no rest breaks.
  2. 25m at 9 AM with one rest break at Hampshire High School.
  3. 45m at 9 AM with the option of up to two rest breaks at Hampshire High School.
  4. 50m (25m at 7 AM 25m at 9 AM) with a rest break at the Middle school and another at Hampshire High School.
  5.  70 miles (25m at 7 AM 45m at 9 AM) with one rest stop at the Middle school and up to two at Hampshire High School.

Special Note: The grade school that we have used in the past is off limits this year due to construction. So we will meet behind the Middle School, which is located at the intersection of Plato and Pease roads. The official address is: 44W303 Plato Rd. Access to behind the Middle school building is actually off Pease Rd.

The Central School complex is located at the top of Plato Road. Look for the old telecommunications tower as you drive north on SR 47 from the 4-way stop at Burlington Rd. Please arrive at least fifteen minutes prior to ride time.

Should you have any questions you are welcome to give me a call. I am hoping for good weather and another great turn out.
